The polycrystalline Na2SmV5O15 (NSV), a new member of the tungsten bronze (TB) family, was prepared by a mixed-oxide technique. The room-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the formation of single phase compound with orthorhombic crystal structure. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis indicated that the compound has homogeneous micrograph with a uniform distribution of small grains over the entire surface of the sample. The analysis of imp...

Gadolinia-doped ceria ceramic pastes were formulated with different solid loadings and extruded using lab-scale equipment. The force to maintain a constant ram speed of 10 mm/min was recorded. The radial shrinkage after drying was proportional to the solid loading and this allowed the determination of the maximum solid loading by an extrapolation procedure. In order to obtain the apparent viscosity of the pastes, a novel approach based on the analysis of the slope of the extrusion pressure pl...

In this study, we investigated the effect of sintering temperature on densification, grain size, conductivity and dielectric properties of Sr1-x(Na0.5Bi0.5)xBi2Nb2O9 ceramics, prepared by hydrothermal method. Pellets were sintered at different temperatures. Density increased with sintering temperature, reaching up to 96% at 800 ℃. A grain growth was observed with increasing sintering temperature....

The influence of thermal treatment on the structural features of mechano-synthesized fluorapatite–titania composite nanopowders was studied. A mixture of calcium and phosphate reagents was mixed with a certain amount of titania (20 wt%) and then was mechanically activated for 5 h, 10 h and 15 h respectively. After that, the mechano-synthesized powders were annealed at 700 ℃ for 2 h. The crystallite size of the composite nanopowders estimated from Williamson–Hall method was in good agre...

Mold powder is generally made of SiO2 and CaO with little amount of calcium fluoride (CaF2) and carbon. Basically, F- has a crucial effect on viscosity and crystallization of the powder. However, emission of toxic materials containing F- constituent such as HF and SiF4 leads to serious environmental pollution. Overall, six powder samples were made during this research to study the effects of such compounds as calcium fluoride (CaF2

Carbon-doped titanium oxide (C/Ti–O) films were prepared on Si(100) wafer, stainless steel (type 304) and glass by reactive magnetron sputtering (RMS) using CO2 gas as carbon and oxygen source under room temperature (RT). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to analyze structure and composition of the as-prepared C/Ti–O film. It could be observed from XRD that the as-prepared C/Ti–O film contained TiO crystal phase structure. Ti2p XPS spectru...

Large-area polycrystalline diamond (PCD) coatings are important for fields such as thermal management, optical windows, tribological moving mechanical assemblies, harsh chemical environments, biological sensors, etc. Microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) is a standard technique to grow high-quality PCD films over large area due to the absence of contact between the reactive species and the filament or the chamber wall. However, the existence of temperature gradients during growth...

The SiC/SiC joints were vacuum brazed at 700 ℃, 740 ℃, 780 ℃ and 800 ℃ for 10 min respectively, using Ag–Cu–In–Ti active filler alloy. The microstructure and joining strength of the joints were characterized by electron probe X-ray microanalyser (EPMA), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and four-point bending strength test. The interface of the joints was composed of three parts: SiC substrate, reaction layer and filler al...

Two sets of (Mg,Y)-doped BaTiO3 samples were prepared to investigate the effects of the core/shell volumetric ratio on the dielectric-temperature behavior of BaTiO3: one set with samples of the same grain size but different core sizes and the other with samples of the same core size but different shell thicknesses. The microstructural variation of the samples was characterized and their dielectric properties were measured. For both sets of samples, the temperature stabil...

SiC honeycomb ceramics with parallel channels and macroporous walls were prepared by combining extrusion molding with pressureless sintering technology in the presence of starch. The extrusion molding constructed honeycomb structure with parallel channels, while the starch formed spherical macropores on the channel walls. The density and bending strength of SiC honeycomb ceramics decreased with the increase of starch content, while the phase compositions did not vary with the starch content. ...
