Nowadays kaolin raw material is usually used to produce nano-kaolin for geopolymer enhancement by using firing method. In the present study, kaolin used was taken from the Naqus Formation (Cambro-Ordovician age), west of Gabal El Gunna, Sinai, Egypt. Nano-kaolin material is an ultrafine material and was prepared from the taken kaolin by the firing process at 800 ℃ for 2 h with a heating rate of 5 ℃/min. Six mixes were prepared and their laboratory specimens were made and cured up to 90 days. ...

Uranium–europium mixed oxides (U1-yEuy)O2-x (y=0.2–0.8) were prepared by the citrate gel combustion technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Single phase fluorite structure was observed in those solid solutions with y≤0.6. The solid solutions with y>0.6 were found to be biphasic, with the second phase being cubic Eu2O3. Heat capacity and enthalpy increment measurements were carri...

Porous Si3N4 ceramics were prepared by aqueous gelcasting using Si3N4 poly-hollow microspheres (PHMs) as pore-forming agent. The effects of solid loading of Si3N4 slurry and Si3N4 PHM content on the properties of porous Si3N4 ceramics were investigated. Only β-Si3N4 phase is observed in porous Si3N4 ceramics, and Si3N4 ...

In this work, we revisit and show how the structural and photoluminescent properties of the MgGa2O4ceramic compound have been kept unchanged for more than two decades. The obtained results confirm the high quality, radiativeefficiency, and chemical stability of this ceramic, proving that the material is a strong candidate to be used in optical device applications with relatively long useful life.

This paper presents the mechanical and thermal properties of flax fabric reinforced fly ash based geopolymer composites. Geopolymer composites reinforced with 2.4, 3.0 and 4.1 wt% woven flax fabric in various layers were fabricated using a hand lay-up technique and tested for mechanical properties such as flexural strength, flexural modulus, compressive strength, hardness, and fracture toughness. All mechanical properties were improved by increasing the flax fibre contents, and showed superio...

A library of ceramic compounds based on the lead-free (KxNa1-x)1-yLiy(Nb1-zTaz)O3 solid solution has been synthesized and characterized using high-throughput experimentation (HTE) method. The phase space previously reported by Saito and Takao has been expanded to {{x, 0.1, 1.0}, {y, 0, 0.1}, {z, 0, 0.2}}, and new phase boundaries are observed. The relativ...

In this study, bulk samples of multiferroic with compositional formula, BiFeO3 and Bi0.825A0.175FeO3 (A=La, Pb), were synthesized by solid state reaction route. X-ray diffraction (XRD) along with the Rietveld refinement revealed the distorted rhombohedral (R3c) structure for pristine BiFeO3 and Bi0.825La0.175FeO3 and tetragonal (P4/mmm) for Bi0.825Pb

Nanocrystalline Zn1-xGdxO (x=0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, and 0.08) ceramics were synthesized by ball milling and subsequent solid-state reaction. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrograph of as synthesized samples revealed the formation of crystallites with an average diameter of 60 nm, and the selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern confirmed the formation of wurtzite structure. A red shift in the band gap was observed with increasing...

The polycarbosilane (PCS) precursor for SiC with high molecular weight and medium molecular weight distribution was synthesized from polydimethylsilane at normal pressure. The chemical formula, the number average molecular weight, and the polydispersivity index of the synthesized PCS are SiC1.94H5.01O0.028, 1135, and 1.66, respectively, which can be attributed to the higher reaction temperature used for polymerization. The polymer to ceramic conversion of PCS ...

Zinc oxide, which has photocatalytic activity, is used as a white pigment for cosmetics, resulting in a certain amount of sebum on the skin to be decomposed by the ultraviolet radiation in the sunlight. In this work, zinc phosphates as novel white pigments for use in cosmetics were prepared from zinc nitrate and sodium dihydrogen phosphate, and then ball-milled under various conditions. The chemical composition, powder properties, photocatalytic activity, color phase, moisture retention, and ...

CaMoO4:Eu3+ and CaMoO4:Eu3+,A+ (A=Li, Na, K) phosphors for light-emitting diode (LED) applications have been prepared by microwave sintering method (MSM), and their structure and luminescence properties are investigated. The influences of microwave reaction time and concentration of different kinds of charge compensation A+ and Eu3+ on luminescence have also been discussed. The samples emit a red luminescence at 615 ...
