Abstract The integration of publishing theory and publishing practice constitutes the basic principle and essential requirement of the Marxist publishing view, as well as the mission and important guarantee for the high-quality development of the publishing industry. Amid the digital revolution driven by 5G, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technologies, the publishing industry is undergoing profound transformation, necessitating the reconstruction of the publishing theoretical system and advance the effective integration of publishing theory and practice. However, there still exists a problem in the current landscape where publishing theory is disconnected from publishing practice. First, traditional publishing theory struggles to accommodate emerging publishing practices. Second, the paradigm theory of publishing integration lags behind actual integration practices. Due to the lack of deep collaboration and interdisciplinary integration in current research on publishing integration, both the modernization transformation of the publishing discipline and the transformation and upgrading of the publishing industry toward digital publishing and integrated publishing are hindered. Third, publishing education lags behind the practice of emerging publishing work. Currently, a disconnect persists between the talent training mode of publishing majors in universities and industry demand, making it difficult to cultivate composite publishing talents that can adapt to the needs of publishing practice. Faced with the theoretical and practical disconnection in publishing, it is urgent to accelerate the paradigm shift of publishing theory. First, publishing research must be grounded in publishing practice to promote the construction of the fundamental theoretical system for publishing studies. Publishing researchers should adhere to the guidance of Marxist publishing theory, inherit and carry forward the outstanding traditions of Chinese publishing, fully draw on advanced publishing experiences from abroad, embrace technological advancements, and draw on research methods from established disciplines. Second, market orientation should be strengthened to promote the construction of publishing disciplines and talent cultivation. In response to the profound changes brought by digital technology to the publishing industry, efforts should be made in the construction of publishing disciplines and talent cultivation from the aspects of educational philosophy, faculty construction, professional curriculum design, and textbook construction. Finally, the publishing academic community and industry should establish a sound collaborative innovation mechanism and co-develop a publishing academic community that adapts to the digital age. Publishing theory researchers should conduct field investigations, and root themselves in rich publishing practice fields. Practitioners, in turn, should actively engage in dialogue with academia, promote the sublimation of practical wisdom into disciplinary knowledge through participating in academic conferences and publishing academic articles. In sumonly by breaking down the academic barriers between theory and practice, implementing collaborative innovation between the publishing academic community and the industry, and building a more cohesive publishing academic community, can China's publishing studies form a disciplinary ecology where theory and practice mutually reinforce each other, and scientific rigor and practical relevance are verified and unified.
